Greenpeace Mounts Westminster

Last evening Greenpeace activists mounted the Houses of Parliament. This afternoon, they were still atop the roof. With 55 days left until Copenhagen and world leaders conspiring to dash hopes (Obama’s energy adviser the latest) of a deal, Greenpeace is doing its bit to keep the heat on.

“Let them do their bit and they’ll come down when they’re ready. They’ll need something to eat or the toilet in a bit,” said one police man. Police presence is notable on the street, as is Greenpeace’s base camp behind St. Margaret’s Church. Not to dampen the London police’s optimism but Greenpeace’s activists are likely prepared for hunger and toilet eventualities.
Said one officer of the peace, “If we was to go up there and one of them fell down and killed themselves they would say the police killed them, wouldn’t they?” We hope everyone has enough warm clothing for the evening (and snacks).
