The Tories, EU bashing, and your food supply

As the Tory Conference continues in Manchester, and David Cameron trashes the EU, let’s take a minute to remember just what the EU has done for the UK. GMO’s are a good place to
start. If not for the EU, British consumers wouldn’t know if the food they buy is genetically modified. There is a common myth in food and drug regulation that just because a problem isn’t evident in a lab, there won’t be a problem in (uncontrolled environment) the real world.
The dangers of GM foods are just becoming apparent. And only the negative impacts on human health and genetics. It turns out that GMO’s aren’t as water efficient as non-GMO crops. This is important for developing countries and climate change. Large agri-business dominates agriculture in developing countries and has a been a hindrance to development. Deforestation and land management are key issues for developing countries last week at pre-Cop15 negotiations in Bangkok.
Read the report by Greenpeace. Check out their film here and on the link on the picture above. And don’t forget to sign the petition!
And for a great documentary on Monsanto the biggest agribusiness boggey-man of them all, see “The World According to Monsanto.”
